Yagyu
Yagyu is a quiet village in Nara Prefecture. It is known as the area governed by the Yagyu family, the most famous swordsman family in Japan. It is one of my favorite places in Japan. In the center of this mountainous village is a temple called “Hotokuji”, which is dedicated to the Yagyu family. Incidentally, the fall colors of the leaves at this temple, combined with the scenery in the garden, are truly beautiful. If you walk through a nearby bamboo grove, you can see a huge stone called “Ittoseki” broken in half. It is said that a member of the Yagyu family, Yagyu Sekishusai, cut the stone in half by mistake when he was training with a tengu. In addition to this, there is the Japanese style house “Yagyu Masakizaka Kenzen Dojo”, which gives you a sense of the “swords village” in many places in the area. It’s a quiet and relaxing place to visit when you want to relax.
柳生は日本の剣豪をはぐぐむ自然豊かで静かな里。
柳生は奈良県にある静かな里です。
日本における最も有名な剣豪一族”柳生家”が統治していた地として知られています。
私も最も好きな場所の１つです。
山深いこの村の中心には、「芳徳寺」という歴代の柳生一族を弔うお寺があります。
ちなみにこのお寺の紅葉は庭の情景と相まって本当に美しいです。
また近くの竹林を通った先には「一刀石」という巨大な石が真っ二つに割れている光景を目にすることができます。
これは柳生家１人「柳生石舟斎」が天狗を相手に修行していて、間違って切ってしまったのがこの石だったと言われています。
これ以外にも、日本風家屋の「柳生正木坂剣禅道場」があるなど、随所に「剣の里」を感じさせてくれます。
静かで落ち着く場所なので、心が癒されたい時に是非訪れたい所ですね。
