In kanji, it is written as “sailing”.
It was named after the sail, which looks like a shell opening and moving forward.
Almost all of the scallops in Japan are landed in Hokkaido, which accounts for half of Hokkaido’s food exports, making it a veritable scallop kingdom.
I want to go to Hokkaido and eat a lot of scallops and sea urchins…
